“A Home Away From Home: An Ashram with its roots in India in Crestone Colorado USA”

Deborah Wood, a.k.a. Ramloti, traveled to India in 1981 to meet her lifelong teacher, Haidakhan Babaji. Working on her masters and PhD in psychology at the time, when she first sat in Aarati With Babaji she knew immediately she would not finish her degrees but do “this” the rest of her life. Not certain what “this” was, indeed she has lived the rest of her life helping to build and run His Ashram here in Crestone, Colorado. She feels she is perhaps slowly learning what “this” means through the seva, spiritual practices, and spectacular nature that the 101 acre, off the grid Ashram abides on in Crestone.

As one of the directors of the Ashram, her responsibilities are many and varied from touring around the country with harmonium giving presentations to waking, bathing, and dressing the live-size Divine Mother murti that resides at the Ashram. She is also a mother of three grown men (two of which accompanied her to be with Babaji on two of her trips there), grandmother of 7, fulfills the executive duties at the Ashram, and is president of the Ashram Board of Directors. The Ashram serves thousands of people each year with perhaps 70% of them Indians who live in Colorado and the surrounding states. We often hear that they love to come to the Ashram because it is like a home to them and for sure they always bring their parents and other family members when they visit from India.
