Dr. Milen Shah – is a NHS doctor for many years and is a GP Partner in a large practice in London serving a variety of patients. He follows up a range of long term patients from children, teens, adults, with a particular interest in elderly and end-of-life care. From a spiritual background, the work is deemed as “seva” (service) with an emphasis on communication skills with compassion and understanding.

Milen  is a volunteer and student at Chinmaya Mission, learning about the Vedanta philosophy, and in facilitating classes for toddlers & parents on the theme of Hindu culture.

Helping India Fight COVID with Go Dharmic

Go Dharmic was started in 2011 by Hemal Randerwala. He was given the spiritual name Hanuman Dass by former Harvard Professor Ram Dass who introduced him to his beloved Guru and Saint, Neem Karoli Baba.

Go Dharmic is a volunteer-driven charitable organisation founded in London, UK (Charity Status No. 1171619)  with a worldwide community of over 3,000 committed members and a social media reach of over 500,000.  Go Dharmic Welfare Foundation India (Charity Status no. 282535) has volunteers throughout the country who communicate digitally and through the GD app to deliver over 15 social action objectives across multiple UN sustainable development goals including but not limited to: Disaster Relief, Food Poverty Alleviation, Development of Education facilities, Development of Toilets in India and Sanitation facilities

BAPS  Covid Pandemic Support

Dr Mayank Shah is a senior partner and GP trainer in an NHS practice. He has previously served as clinical director at Waltham Forest CCG. He is also the clinical director at Lotus Healthcare, an independent sector healthcare provider of health screening, general practice and medico-legal services.

Dr Shah is a Trustee at The BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha UK & Europe (Neasden Temple) where he has special responsibility for all it’s Outreach activities. These include the charity partnerships, health awareness programmes and interfaith relationship.

During the Covid pandemic, BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha globally has been actively involved in supporting the local communities in a variety of ways. This support has now been extended to aid the current India covid pandemic.

Dr Shah and his Outreach department members, Khushboo Miyani and Jay Patel, will provide an overview of the Covid pandemic support programmes

Vaccination  Update

Darshna is the Vaccine Programme Director for the Covid-19 vaccination centre at Shree Swaminarayan Mandir in Kingsbury in London, UK. The site is run by Harness Care Ltd, a group of 20 GP practices working together to serve the population of Brent. She is a GP Pharmacist currently clinically redeployed from her substantive post as Deputy Head of Workforce Planning at Health Education England. Darshna speaks passionately about the power of collaboration and communities coming together, highlighting the true multidisciplinary nature of the centre. The team currently comprises of volunteers from the temple, healthcare students, allied health professionals, healthcare assistants, nursing associates, pharmacists, nurses, doctors and even deployed military personnel!  Divya Seva Foundation Outreach

In 2005 Bhartiben formed Divya Seva Foundation (DSF) after being moved by the plight of a young disabled girl called Lakshmi who couldn’t get to school due to a lack of a wheelchair or adaptive learning tools. DSF is a UK registered Charity for which she is the founder Trustee and President and whose motto is ‘Towards a brighter future’.

DSF has developed projects in the areas of; education, vocational training, medical treatment, community building, spiritual values and empowerment of women and girls. In addition, Bhartiben mobilised a team to donate over 10,000 meals to the NHS and key workers during the UK national lockdowns and is now tackling the Covid Crisis in India. She has managed to source oxygen cylinders, oxygen concentrators, sponsored and fully equipped an emergency covid crisis hospital and procured emergency patient vehicles. She is a mother of three, believes we all have the power to make a difference, is quick to respond to any humanitarian disasters and her latest project is sourcing housing for those affected by the Gujarat cyclone.

Dr. Dobee is a recipient of the ‘Bay Area’s Outstanding Woman of the year’ award. She has also been the recipient of the California Patient Choice award.
Dr. Dobee takes a special interest in helping the underserved children and women in her local community. On the professional front, Dr. Dobee was the Past President and Dental Health Chair of SACDS Dental Society. Dr Rajeev Gupta is Medically Qualified Consultant in NHS for 18 years and is Chairman of Central Specialist Advisory Committee of The Royal College in London. He has been Chairman of Regional Council of BMA for 5 years and is currently Chairman of the Regional Consultant Committee for Yorkshire.

He is an active researcher and has been Chief Investigator and UK coordinator for International Research Trails. He has received many awards including clinical excellence awards, Glory of India Award, Outstanding personal Service Award, Heart award, Patient Choice Award and Gold Award for health Workplace.

He has active interest in yoga and has been tasked by Swami Ramdev ji to lead medical advisory committee and actively help integrating yoga into medical practice in UK. He has since then set up teaching Yoga to doctors and has run many yoga teaching sessions for doctors each around 30 doctors. He has done a lot of study of the health benefits of yoga and will be happy to share it with us today.

Vaccines, Variants and the way forward.

Dr Bharat Pankhania has widespread experience of advising on national communicable disease control action plans at national and international level.
Dr Pankhania, as a senior Consultant in Communicable Disease Control, coordinated complex and very sensitive look back exercises, where there had been laboratory errors or hospital exposure of patients to infections, these are major national exercises and very sensitive operations.
Dr Pankhania’s experience includes: Pandemic Influenza outbreak planning and major plan testing exercises: Development of a web-based surveillance system for recording the first 500 plus cases of a pandemic, to quickly understand the new virus and thus better implement control measures. He was the local Lead for Pandemic Influenza planning at Public Health England and became the reference point for outbreak planning, testing systems and control strategies.
He was immersed in and contributed to the Ebola and SARS surveillance and control methodologies, specialist screening methods at ports of entry.
