Preserving the Bounty

Simone loved helping in the kitchen as child. Both her mother, who has always been on the cutting edge of health and wellness, and her French step-mother, influenced her greatly. She also grew up in an ashram, cooking for the international community in her early teens, where she learned love was a key ingredient.
In 1995 she founded Abundance Catering in Santa Barbara, CA, cooking for Los Angeles yoga groups and the likes, then to New York City as a private chef, and back to Santa Barbara co-founding Cultured and Saucy, a fermented condiment line, with her sister.
Now she is delivering home cooked meals to a few clients, and loves growing her own ingredients.
Today we’ll explore saving the season’s harvest through canning, fermenting, pickling, dehydrating and freezing and ways to best use your preserved ingredients. We will also make a summer fresh fruit cake showcasing Simone’s apricot harvest!
